Exploring themes of the Dionysian and the Absurd my work has become a subversive and life affirming strategy through which I attempt to unpack notions of futility, pointlessness, hopelessness and nuisance, in the hope of coming cyclically full circle and once again find (actively) meaning in the void and through this affirm life.
The Carbon Essence Drawings although seemingly paintings are actually drawings, where the carbon material has been drawn out of itself bringing out its truer nature, its essential forms, and its essences. Intricate and organic in form they are inspired by my sound work with bass frequencies. The dark nature of the bitumen gives immense depth and alludes to its mysterious primordial origins. They come across as images or abstractions but are in actual fact the real material and could be viewed as very thin drawn sculptures.
